Law firm, Hunton & Garget Solicitors, show their support for Samaritans

Volunteers for our local Samaritans branch visited Hunton & Garget Solicitors earlier this week to receive a donation. Lisa Potts, Managing Partner at the law firm, explained why the charity was at the top of her list, “We are always looking for opportunities to support the local community and as we know the challenges of the last few years have sadly had a huge impact on the mental health of so many.  Samaritans are a lifeline for those in need and with the usual fundraising activities on hold we wanted to offer a little support during these difficult times.”

The Northallerton and Dales branch of Samaritans is the oldest rural branch in the country – supporting over 1200 square miles of North Yorkshire.  The branch takes more than 6000 calls every year and running costs are met solely from occasional donations, street collections and fundraising.

Elsa Taylor, Deputy Director of Fundraising for the branch explained, “The need for our services remains as acute as ever – our small, rural branch takes in the region of 500 calls monthly from people who find themselves in emotional distress.  It remains, as ever, a struggle to raise our annual running costs, without which our branch would have to close so We can’t thank Hunton & Garget Solicitors enough for choosing us to be the beneficiary of such a kind donation. “
